Act of Kindness and Goodwill
Mr. Phillips was leaving work when he remembered, “I must buy bananas for home!” Across the road sat an old lady selling fresh bananas. She looked tired, but her fruit looked bright and sweet.
“How much for one kilo?” he asked.
“Seven dollars,” she said gently.
“The big shop sells them for five,” Mr. Phillips replied.
She shook her head. “I cannot sell that low. Six is the best I can do.”
Mr. Phillips said, “Never mind,” and drove to his usual store. There, the bananas cost ten dollars a kilo! The manager would not lower the price at all.
Mr. Phillips thought for a moment. Then he went back to the old lady.
“Please give me two kilos,” he said. “I will pay you ten dollars each.”
Her eyes grew wide. “I cannot take ten. Seven is enough. Thank you for your kindness.” Softly she shared that her husband had been sick, and now she sold fruit alone to get by.
Mr. Phillips paid her kindly and gave her a little extra. “Use this to bring more fruits tomorrow. I will buy from you again.”
He also told his friends at work. Soon many people bought from her. With their help, the old lady’s days grew brighter.
Moral
Be kind and fair to people who work hard. Big shops set fixed prices, yet we often bargain hard with small sellers. Choose to help someone who truly needs support.
