Father and the Donkey

Banwarilal was a simple man who believed almost everything he heard. One day he and his son walked to market to sell their donkey. Some village boys wanted to have fun with him.

“Why walk?” they called. “Let the son ride!” So the son sat on the donkey.

Soon the boys teased again. “The boy rides while the father walks? How selfish!” So father and son switched places.

Then the boys laughed once more. “The father rides and makes the poor son walk? Both of you should ride!” Father and son climbed on together. The tired donkey collapsed.

“Take him to a doctor!” the boys cried. Banwarilal followed that advice too.

On the way, stray dogs barked. In the panic, the donkey slipped into the river and was lost. Banwarilal had tried to please everyone—and ended up with nothing.
