Never Give Up

One day a farmer’s donkey fell into a deep well. The poor animal cried for hours. The farmer thought and thought. At last he decided the donkey was old, and the well needed to be covered anyway. He called his neighbours. Together they began to shovel dirt into the well.

At first the donkey cried louder. Then, suddenly, he grew quiet.

The farmer looked down and could hardly believe his eyes. With every shovel of dirt that fell on his back, the donkey shook it off—and took one step up.

Shake. Step. Shake. Step.

The neighbours kept shoveling, and the donkey kept climbing. Soon he stepped right over the edge of the well and trotted away, free and proud!

Everyone stared in wonder. The donkey had turned trouble into a staircase.

Moral

Life may throw dirt on you. Do not let it bury you. Shake it off, take a step up, and never give up!
