The Cracked Pot
In India, a water bearer carried two large pots on a pole across his neck. One pot was perfect and always arrived full. The other pot had a crack. By the end of the long walk from the stream, it was only half full.
For two whole years this happened every day. The perfect pot felt proud. The cracked pot felt sad and useless.
One day by the stream, the cracked pot said, “I am ashamed. I leak water all the way home. Because of my crack, you get only half my load.”
The water bearer answered kindly, “On the way back, look at the flowers along the path.”
As they walked up the hill, the cracked pot saw bright wildflowers dancing in the sun. Still, at the house, it felt sorry again.
Then the bearer said, “Did you notice? Flowers grow only on your side of the path. I knew about your crack. I planted seeds there on purpose. Every day you watered them. For two years those flowers have made my master’s table beautiful. Without you—just as you are—there would be no such beauty.”
The cracked pot felt warm with joy. Its crack was not only a flaw. It was also a gift.
Moral
We all have cracks and differences. Nothing is wasted. What feels like a weakness can become a blessing and bring beauty to the world.
